How to Properly Pack Boxes When Moving

To perfect the way you pack your boxes and assure that your possessions will remain safe during the entire move, use the following steps as a guideline: To start, make sure the box is properly taped on the bottom to support the weight of any packed goods.



1. Layer the bottom of the box with packing paper to form a soft, cushioned bottom.
2. Start by packing heavier items on the bottom and working your way up to lightest goods on top.
3. Make sure to use plenty of packing paper, packing peanuts, or foam to protect your goods.
4. After the first bottom layer is packed, make another layered cushion of packing paper on top and start filling the box again. This will create an extra layer of cushion inside your packed box, and assure there are no empty spaces for things to shift around. 
5. Always pack your box all the way to the top. This will allow for a crush-free box!
6. Once packed to the top, fold the flaps in and use 3 pieces of tape to ensure the top will stay closed. 
7. Now it is time to label your box properly. 
8. Using a sharpie or magic marker, label the box on top and at least 1 side what the general contents are and where to put the box at the new destination. You can also use a color coding system where a certain color = a specific room at the new destination.
